The Libyan soft drink market shrank modestly to $X in 2021, waning by -4.2% against the previous year. In general, consumption continues to indicate a perceptible slump. Soft drink consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 492%. The exports peaked at X litres in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, soft drink exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 413% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The UK (X litres) was the main destination for soft drink exports from Libya, accounting for a 98% share of total exports. It was followed by Egypt (X litres), with a 1.2% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the UK was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (-34.5% per year) and Malta (-34.6% per year).
In value terms, the UK ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for soft drink exports from Libya, comprising 99% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Egypt ($X), with a 0.4% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to the UK was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (-40.8% per year) and Malta (-36.8% per year).

In 2021, the average soft drink export price amounted to $X per litre, with an increase of 4.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 120% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per litre in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Egypt ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Niger (+17.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Libya
In 2021, supplies from abroad of soft drinks was finally on the rise to reach X litres for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X litres in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, soft drink imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 58%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Austria (X litres), Saudi Arabia (X litres) and Tunisia (X litres) were the main suppliers of soft drink imports to Libya, with a combined 37% share of total imports. Serbia, Turkey, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, Spain, Egypt, Italy and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 49%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Serbia (with a CAGR of +61.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Austria ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Serbia ($X) appeared to be the largest soft drink suppliers to Libya, with a combined 40% share of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, Serbia, with a CAGR of +62.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average soft drink import price stood at $X per litre in 2021, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per litre), while the price for Tunisia ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
