Imports into Libya
In 2022, supplies from abroad of glass fibre fabrics decreased by -5% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after five years of growth. In general, imports, however, showed a noticeable expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 221%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, glass fibre fabrics imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted notable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 161% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of glass fibre fabrics to Libya, with a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, glass fibre fabrics imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), threefold. Belgium (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 18% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +4.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+3.7% per year) and Belgium (+69.2% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of glass fibre fabrics to Libya, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 2.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +11.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+6.8% per year) and Belgium (+43.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average glass fibre fabrics import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 36%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+25.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
