Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 361%. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 327% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Latvia (X units), Russia (X units) and Sweden (X units) were the main destinations of exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers from Lithuania, with a combined 80% share of total exports. Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Estonia and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.

In 2022, the average export price for aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers amounted to $X per unit, surging by 9.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 57% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Latvia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers into Lithuania reduced to X units, which is down by -9.8% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 97%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers reduced to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 96%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Finland (X units) constituted the largest aluminium cask, drum, can, box and similar container supplier to Lithuania, accounting for a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers from Finland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X units), twofold. Estonia (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 18% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Finland amounted to +78.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+9.3% per year) and Estonia (+134.1% per year).

In value terms, Finland ($X), Poland ($X) and Estonia ($X) appeared to be the largest aluminium cask, drum, can, box and similar container suppliers to Lithuania, together accounting for 95% of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, Estonia, with a CAGR of +128.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, the import price, however, saw a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Estonia ($X per unit) and Poland ($X per unit), while the price for Sweden ($X per unit) and Finland ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.
