Grain Market Size in Lithuania

For the third year in a row, the Lithuanian grain market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a mild slump. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Grain Production in Lithuania

In value terms, grain production rose notably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by X%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Nigeria (X tons), Latvia (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main destinations of grain exports from Lithuania, with a combined X% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Nigeria (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) remains the key foreign market for cereal grains exports from Lithuania, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Latvia, with an X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sudan (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Grain Imports

Imports into Lithuania

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of cereal grains, when their volume increased by X% to X tons. In general, imports posted a measured expansion. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, grain imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports posted a prominent expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Poland (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Russia (X tons) were the main suppliers of grain imports to Lithuania, together comprising X% of total imports. Latvia, Sweden, Denmark and Estonia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
