Kazakhstan (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) were the main destinations of coconut exports from Lithuania, together comprising 90% of total exports. The Netherlands, Latvia and Uzbekistan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 10%.

In 2022, overseas purchases of coconuts increased by 115% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, coconut imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a perceptible descent. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of coconut to Lithuania, with a 72% share of total imports. Moreover, coconut imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), fivefold. Belgium (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Netherlands stood at -10.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+48.5% per year) and Belgium (-2.9% per year).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of coconuts to Lithuania, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Latvia, with a 2.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from the Netherlands amounted to -3.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+39.1% per year) and Latvia (+3.2% per year).

The average coconut import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 33% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
