Dry Vegetable Market Size in Lithuania
For the fourth consecutive year, the Lithuanian dry vegetable market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 17% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +34.2% against 2017 indices. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports from Lithuania
In 2022, overseas shipments of dry vegetables decreased by -51.6% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. In general, exports recorded a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 147% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, dry vegetable exports reduced rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a slight expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 109% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
Exports by Country
Latvia (X tons) was the main destination for dry vegetable exports from Lithuania, with a 65% share of total exports. Moreover, dry vegetable exports to Latvia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Estonia (X tons), sixfold. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Latvia amounted to +2.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Estonia (+1.6% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (0.0% per year).
In value terms, Latvia ($X) remains the key foreign market for dry vegetables exports from Lithuania, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Estonia ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 6.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Latvia totaled +3.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Estonia (+6.0% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (0.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average dry vegetable export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 5.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate measured growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 113%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Dry Vegetable Imports
Imports into Lithuania
In 2022, imports of dry vegetables into Lithuania rose rapidly to X tons, with an increase of 6.8% against the previous year. In general, total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -2.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 65% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, dry vegetable imports rose sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +59.4% against 2014 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), India (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of dry vegetable imports to Lithuania, with a combined 72% share of total imports. Latvia, Italy, Germany and Egypt lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +30.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest dry vegetable suppliers to Lithuania were China ($X), Poland ($X) and India ($X), together accounting for 57% of total imports. Italy, Germany, Latvia and Egypt lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.
Italy, with a CAGR of +21.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average dry vegetable import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average import price increased by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
