Gingerbread Market Size in Lithuania

In 2022, the Lithuanian gingerbread market increased by 7.9% to $X, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, recorded a prominent expansion. Gingerbread consumption peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2022, the amount of gingerbread exported from Lithuania skyrocketed to X tons, increasing by 24% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports, however, showed a noticeable slump. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, gingerbread exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a slight downturn. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for gingerbread exports from Lithuania, accounting for a 59% share of total exports. Moreover, gingerbread exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United States (X tons), with an 8.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany amounted to -1.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+14.7% per year) and the United States (-0.6% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for gingerbread exports from Lithuania, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the UK ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 9.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany amounted to -1.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+14.8% per year) and the United States (+0.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average gingerbread export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Latvia ($X per ton) and Estonia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Latvia (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Gingerbread Imports

Imports into Lithuania

In 2022, purchases abroad of gingerbread decreased by -29.1% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports saw a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, gingerbread imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 25%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Imports by Country

Latvia (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main suppliers of gingerbread imports to Lithuania, together accounting for 81% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Ukraine (with a CAGR of +50.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Latvia ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest gingerbread suppliers to Lithuania, together comprising 83% of total imports. Ukraine and Estonia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 13%.

Ukraine, with a CAGR of +51.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average gingerbread import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 29% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.7%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Estonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
