Plastic Household Articles Market Size in Lithuania
In 2022, the Lithuanian plastic household articles market increased by 6.9% to $X, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a strong increase. Plastic household articles consumption peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Plastic Household Articles Production in Lithuania
In value terms, plastic household articles production surged to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, the total production indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +53.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Plastic Household Articles Exports
Exports from Lithuania
For the fourth consecutive year, Lithuania recorded decline in shipments abroad of household articles and toilet articles of plastics, which decreased by -6.7% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 48%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, plastic household articles exports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 50%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Latvia (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Estonia (X tons) were the main destinations of plastic household articles exports from Lithuania, together accounting for 41% of total exports. Russia, the UK, Sweden, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, France, the United States and Kazakhstan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 47%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the United States (with a CAGR of +23.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Latvia ($X), Russia ($X) and Estonia ($X) constituted the largest markets for plastic household articles exported from Lithuania worldwide, with a combined 46% share of total exports. Germany, the UK, Poland, Kazakhstan, Sweden, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, France and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.
Among the main countries of destination, the United States, with a CAGR of +27.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average plastic household articles export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. In general, export price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, plastic household articles export price increased by +75.8% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Plastic Household Articles Imports
Imports into Lithuania
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of household articles and toilet articles of plastics, when their volume decreased by -13.9% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, plastic household articles imports stood at $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 24%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of plastic household articles to Lithuania, with a 49% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic household articles imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), fourfold. Latvia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Poland was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+8.8% per year) and Latvia (+9.4% per year).
In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of household articles and toilet articles of plastics to Lithuania, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Latvia, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Poland was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+5.9% per year) and Latvia (+10.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average plastic household articles import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 19% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Serbia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
