In 2022, overseas shipments of household refrigerators and freezers (not combined) decreased by -33.5% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 28%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-combined refrigerator-freezer exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 21%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Latvia (X units) was the main destination for non-combined refrigerator-freezer exports from Lithuania, accounting for a 27% share of total exports. Moreover, non-combined refrigerator-freezer exports to Latvia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Estonia (X units), with an 8.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Latvia amounted to +9.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+1.3% per year) and Estonia (+23.0% per year).

In value terms, Latvia ($X), Germany ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X) constituted the largest markets for non-combined refrigerator-freezer exported from Lithuania worldwide, with a combined 45% share of total exports. Estonia, Austria, the Czech Republic, Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Bulgaria and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 39%.

Among the main countries of destination, Kyrgyzstan, with a CAGR of +81.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average non-combined refrigerator-freezer export price amounted to $X per unit, growing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kyrgyzstan (+14.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Lithuania

In 2022, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of household refrigerators and freezers (not combined), when their volume decreased by -18.9% to X units. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 30%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2021, and then shrank notably in the following year.

In value terms, non-combined refrigerator-freezer imports contracted sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Latvia (X units) constituted the largest non-combined refrigerator-freezer supplier to Lithuania, with a 41% share of total imports. Moreover, non-combined refrigerator-freezer imports from Latvia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Turkey (X units), with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Latvia stood at +23.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+5.0% per year) and Turkey (+10.7% per year).

In value terms, Latvia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of household refrigerators and freezers (not combined) to Lithuania, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 7.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Latvia stood at +18.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+5.3% per year) and Italy (+10.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average non-combined refrigerator-freezer import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 2.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a mild slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for Finland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
