Molasse Market Size in Lithuania
After two years of growth, the Lithuanian molasse market decreased by -2.9% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption saw prominent growth. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
Molasse Production in Lithuania

Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, molasse exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Estonia (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and Latvia (X tons) were the main destinations of molasse exports from Lithuania, together accounting for 83% of total exports. Poland and Norway lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Norway (with a CAGR of +30.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Estonia ($X), Portugal ($X) and Latvia ($X) constituted the largest markets for molasse exported from Lithuania worldwide, with a combined 76% share of total exports. Poland and Norway lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.
Norway, with a CAGR of +61.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average molasse export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 10% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, molasse export price increased by +76.1% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 33% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Estonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Norway (+23.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Molasse Imports
Imports into Lithuania
In 2022, supplies from abroad of molasses increased by 83% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports posted a strong increase. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, molasse imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 96% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Belarus (X tons) constituted the largest molasse supplier to Lithuania, with a 81% share of total imports. Moreover, molasse imports from Belarus exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Latvia (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Russia (X tons), with a 5.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Belarus amounted to +7.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Latvia (+59.2% per year) and Russia (+45.8% per year).
In value terms, Belarus ($X) constituted the largest supplier of molasses to Lithuania, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Latvia ($X), with a 6.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 5.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Belarus totaled +12.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Latvia (+41.8% per year) and Germany (+149.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average molasse import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a notable expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average import price increased by 57% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
