Oat Market Size in Lithuania

In 2022, the Lithuanian oat market increased by 26% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

Oat Production in Lithuania

In value terms, oat production declined slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 59%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

The average yield of oats in Lithuania contracted to X tons per ha in 2022, with a decrease of -5.3% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, the yield continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the yield increased by 18% against the previous year. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the average oat yield failed to regain momentum. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2022, the harvested area of oats in Lithuania amounted to X ha, growing by 6.8% on 2021. Over the period under review, the total harvested area indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, oat harvested area decreased by -6.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the harvested area increased by 35%. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to oat production attained the maximum at X ha in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the harvested area failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Lithuania

In 2022, overseas shipments of oats decreased by -40.7% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. In general, exports, however, showed resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 74% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, oat exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Latvia (X tons), Germany (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of oat exports from Lithuania, together accounting for 80% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +46.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Latvia ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for oat exported from Lithuania worldwide, with a combined 77% share of total exports.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +42.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average oat export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 16% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Lithuania

In 2022, oat imports into Lithuania skyrocketed to X tons, with an increase of 22% against the year before. Overall, imports recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 107%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, oat imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 104%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Russia (X tons), Latvia (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of oat imports to Lithuania, together accounting for 96% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +48.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest oat suppliers to Lithuania were Russia ($X), Latvia ($X) and Poland ($X), together accounting for 92% of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Russia, with a CAGR of +65.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average oat import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 15% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 37%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+11.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
