Paint And Varnish Market Size in Lithuania

For the seventh year in a row, the Lithuanian paint and varnish market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 2.2% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a resilient increase. Paint and varnish consumption peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, paint and varnish production expanded notably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, the total production indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +60.4% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the production volume increased by 12%. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Paint And Varnish Exports

Exports from Lithuania

Paint and varnish exports from Lithuania declined to X tons in 2022, dropping by -9.3% on the year before. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, paint and varnish exports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +63.2% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 41%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Russia (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) were the main destinations of paint and varnish exports from Lithuania, with a combined 60% share of total exports. Latvia, Uzbekistan, Belgium, Estonia and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Estonia (with a CAGR of +8.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Belarus ($X) constituted the largest markets for paint and varnish exported from Lithuania worldwide, with a combined 59% share of total exports. Latvia, Uzbekistan, Estonia, Ukraine and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.

Belgium, with a CAGR of +14.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average paint and varnish export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Paint And Varnish Imports

Imports into Lithuania

In 2022, paint and varnish imports into Lithuania dropped slightly to X tons, with a decrease of -4.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +31.9% against 2014 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

In value terms, paint and varnish imports declined to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +48.6% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Poland (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of paint and varnish imports to Lithuania, together accounting for 59% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +10.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Poland ($X) and Italy ($X) were the largest paint and varnish suppliers to Lithuania, with a combined 51% share of total imports.

Germany, with a CAGR of +10.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average paint and varnish import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 3.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 9%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
