For the third consecutive year, Lithuania recorded decline in shipments abroad of plastic tableware and kitchenware, which decreased by -36% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 47%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, plastic tableware and kitchenware exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 50%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Latvia (X tons) was the main destination for plastic tableware and kitchenware exports from Lithuania, accounting for a 38% share of total exports. Moreover, plastic tableware and kitchenware exports to Latvia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Estonia (X tons), fourfold. Russia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Latvia amounted to -5.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Estonia (-7.4% per year) and Russia (-18.4% per year).
In value terms, Latvia ($X) remains the key foreign market for plastic tableware and kitchenware exports from Lithuania, comprising 37% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Estonia, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Latvia amounted to -2.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (-16.3% per year) and Estonia (-1.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average plastic tableware and kitchenware export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 13% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 39% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+11.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Lithuania
In 2022, overseas purchases of plastic tableware and kitchenware decreased by -11% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. Overall, total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -26.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 50% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, plastic tableware and kitchenware imports declined to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 35%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest plastic tableware and kitchenware supplier to Lithuania, accounting for a 45% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic tableware and kitchenware imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), fivefold. Latvia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Poland amounted to +1.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+5.0% per year) and Latvia (+3.8% per year).
In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of plastic tableware and kitchenware to Lithuania, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Latvia ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 9.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Poland totaled +2.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Latvia (+10.0% per year) and Germany (+3.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average plastic tableware and kitchenware import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 1.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 50%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
