In 2022, the amount of salt and pure sodium chloride imported into Lithuania reduced sharply to X tons, falling by -50.6% against 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed modest growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 198% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, salt imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 103%. Belarus (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) were the main suppliers of salt imports to Lithuania, with a combined 56% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Morocco (with a CAGR of +1,500.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Morocco ($X) constituted the largest supplier of salt and pure sodium chloride to Lithuania, comprising 32% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 9.8% share.
