After two years of growth, the Lithuanian sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates market decreased by -7% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw tangible growth. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Lithuania

In 2022, overseas shipments of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates increased by 24% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed noticeable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 193%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 446% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Estonia (X tons) was the main destination for sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports from Lithuania, accounting for a 91% share of total exports. Moreover, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports to Estonia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Finland (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Russia (X kg), with a 2.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Estonia stood at +29.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Finland (-4.0% per year) and Russia (+20.9% per year).

In value terms, Estonia ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports from Lithuania, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Finland ($X), with a 5.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 2.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Estonia stood at +36.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Finland (+1.6% per year) and Belarus (+45.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -18.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 126%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Estonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Latvia (+12.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Sulphides, Polysulphides, Dithionites And Sulphoxylates

Imports into Lithuania

Sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates imports into Lithuania declined to X tons in 2022, which is down by -5.4% on the previous year. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 208% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates imports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 260%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates supplier to Lithuania, with a 70% share of total imports. Moreover, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Italy (X tons), with a 2.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Poland amounted to +25.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+2.9% per year) and Italy (+11.8% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates to Lithuania, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 30% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 1.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Poland stood at +27.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+8.6% per year) and Italy (+3.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 2.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 60% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+24.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
