T-Shirt Market Size in Lithuania

In 2022, the Lithuanian t-shirt market decreased by -10.8% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, consumption, however, enjoyed significant growth. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, t-shirt production fell significantly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a resilient increase. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2021, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

In 2022, the amount of t-shirts exported from Lithuania fell to X units, with a decrease of -10.1% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 127%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, t-shirt exports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Russia (X units), Denmark (X units) and Germany (X units) were the main destinations of t-shirt exports from Lithuania, together comprising 58% of total exports. Austria, Belarus, the Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Norway, Ukraine, Sweden and Estonia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +37.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for t-shirt exported from Lithuania were Germany ($X), Denmark ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined 45% share of total exports. Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Austria, Belarus, Latvia, Ukraine, Estonia and Kazakhstan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.

Kazakhstan, with a CAGR of +24.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average t-shirt export price amounted to $X per unit, rising by 9.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Lithuania

In 2022, after four years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of t-shirts, when their volume increased by 5.8% to X units. In general, imports, however, saw a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 31%. Imports peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, t-shirt imports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 30%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Poland (X units) constituted the largest supplier of t-shirt to Lithuania, accounting for a 32% share of total imports. Moreover, t-shirt imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X units), twofold. Belarus (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Poland amounted to +15.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-3.3% per year) and Belarus (+15.9% per year).

In value terms, the largest t-shirt suppliers to Lithuania were Poland ($X), Belarus ($X) and Germany ($X), together comprising 48% of total imports.

Belarus, with a CAGR of +23.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average t-shirt import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -12.3% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, t-shirt import price increased by +66.0% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 43%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then dropped in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while the price for Turkey ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+13.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
