Vegetable Product Market Size in Lithuania

The Lithuanian vegetable product market surged to $X in 2022, with an increase of 25% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 90% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, vegetable product exports amounted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 93%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Sweden (X tons), Norway (X tons) and Latvia (X tons) were the main destinations of vegetable product exports from Lithuania, with a combined 64% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Sweden (with a CAGR of +361.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for vegetable product exported from Lithuania were Sweden ($X), Norway ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 53% share of total exports.

Sweden, with a CAGR of +318.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average vegetable product export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 62%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Estonia (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Vegetable Product Imports

Imports into Lithuania

In 2022, approx. X tons of vegetable products were imported into Lithuania; surging by 2.3% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 186% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, vegetable product imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 209%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest vegetable product supplier to Lithuania, with a 71% share of total imports. Moreover, vegetable product imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Latvia (X tons), fivefold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +24.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Latvia (+37.7% per year) and Germany (+4.8% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of vegetable products to Lithuania, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Latvia ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 4.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +30.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Latvia (+35.5% per year) and Germany (+1.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average vegetable product import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 6.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, vegetable product import price increased by +63.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 43%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+21.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
