Flax Fabric Market Size in Lithuania

After seven years of growth, the Lithuanian flax fabric market decreased by -7.5% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption, however, saw a buoyant expansion. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

Flax Fabric Production in Lithuania

In value terms, flax fabric production declined to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, the total production indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +102.3% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the production volume increased by 19%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then fell in the following year.

For the eleventh consecutive year, Lithuania recorded growth in shipments abroad of woven fabrics of flax, which increased by 95% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports posted significant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, flax fabric exports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -21.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 34% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

France (X tons), the UK (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main destinations of flax fabric exports from Lithuania, with a combined 35% share of total exports. Latvia, Japan, Estonia, Ukraine, Russia, the United States, South Korea, Vietnam, Finland and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.

From 2020 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Ukraine (with a CAGR of +644.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for flax fabric exported from Lithuania were the UK ($X), France ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 33% share of total exports. Latvia, Japan, Estonia, Ukraine, the United States, South Korea, Russia, Vietnam, the Netherlands and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 43%.

Ukraine, with a CAGR of +617.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average flax fabric export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -54.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a dramatic setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price decreased by -19.9%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to South Korea ($X per ton) and the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($X per ton) and Finland ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2020 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (-3.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Lithuania

In 2022, approx. X tons of woven fabrics of flax were imported into Lithuania; surging by 27% compared with the previous year. In general, imports posted significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, flax fabric imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 41%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.

Imports by Country

Belarus (X tons), China (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of flax fabric imports to Lithuania, with a combined 83% share of total imports.

From 2020 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +401.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Belarus ($X), China ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest flax fabric suppliers to Lithuania, with a combined 78% share of total imports.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +219.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average flax fabric import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -33.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 6.1% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2020 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
