Germany (X tons) was the main destination for exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres from Luxembourg, accounting for a 44% share of total exports. Moreover, exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belgium (X tons), twofold. For the third consecutive year, Luxembourg recorded decline in overseas purchases of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres, which decreased by -41.4% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 1,935%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres fell remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 1,297% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Sri Lanka (X tons) were the main suppliers of imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres to Luxembourg, with a combined 82% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Sri Lanka (with a CAGR of +64.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Belgium ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the largest coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibre suppliers to Luxembourg, together comprising 83% of total imports. Sri Lanka, France and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 7.6%.
