Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, molluscs exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 48%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Belgium (X tons), France (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of molluscs exports from Luxembourg, with a combined 88% share of total exports. Azerbaijan lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 12%.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of molluscs (scallops, mussels, cuttle fish, squid and octopus) decreased by -4.9% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, molluscs imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Belgium (X tons) constituted the largest molluscs supplier to Luxembourg, accounting for a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, molluscs imports from Belgium exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Portugal (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Spain (X tons), with an 8.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Belgium totaled +8.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Portugal (+6.9% per year) and Spain (+1.3% per year).

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Belgium stood at +3.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+9.4% per year) and Portugal (+11.0% per year).
