In general, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +84.3% against 2017 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

France (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of plastic household ware exports from Luxembourg, with a combined 68% share of total exports. Belgium, Poland, the United States, the UK, Spain, Austria and Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +32.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for plastic household ware exported from Luxembourg were France ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Germany ($X), together comprising 67% of total exports. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2021, purchases abroad of plastics household articles and toilet articles decreased by -8.6% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +54.5% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 20%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, plastic household ware imports reached $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Poland (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) were the main suppliers of plastic household ware imports to Luxembourg, together accounting for 48% of total imports. Hungary, Italy, Spain, France and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 49%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +29.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest plastic household ware suppliers to Luxembourg were Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and Poland ($X), together accounting for 46% of total imports. These countries were followed by Hungary, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain, which together accounted for a further 51%.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a mild curtailment. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
