Rice Market Size in Luxembourg

For the fourth year in a row, the Luxembourg rice market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 8.9% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +63.7% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2021, Belgium (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of rice to Luxembourg, with a 41% share of total imports. Moreover, rice imports from Belgium exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Portugal (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by France (X tons), with a 17% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Belgium totaled +8.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Portugal (+3.0% per year) and France (+10.0% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
