Antisera Market Size in Malaysia

The Malaysian antisera market declined to $X in 2021, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, the total consumption indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine-year period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the production volume increased by 57%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2016 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Malaysia

In 2021, shipments abroad of antisera and other blood fractions decreased by -17.8% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 623%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, antisera exports contracted dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 379% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Australia (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) were the main destinations of antisera exports from Malaysia, together accounting for 74% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Singapore (with a CAGR of +74.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Australia ($X), Singapore ($X) and Jordan ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for antisera exported from Malaysia worldwide, together accounting for 71% of total exports. These countries were followed by Brunei Darussalam, Ethiopia, Egypt and Iraq, which together accounted for a further 10%.

Egypt, with a CAGR of +170.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average antisera export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 1.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 90% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Brunei Darussalam ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Jordan (+25.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Malaysia

For the third year in a row, Malaysia recorded growth in supplies from abroad of antisera and other blood fractions, which increased by 27% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 445% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, antisera imports fell rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 481% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

South Korea (X tons), China (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main suppliers of antisera imports to Malaysia, with a combined 80% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +50.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X), China ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest antisera suppliers to Malaysia, together accounting for 30% of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, China, with a CAGR of +58.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Import Prices by Country

The average antisera import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -43.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 266%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the price for South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+24.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
