The Malaysian circuit breaker market rose to $X in 2022, picking up by 3.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate strong growth. Circuit breaker consumption peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, circuit breaker production expanded modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the production volume increased by 101%. Circuit breaker production peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Malaysia
Circuit breaker exports from Malaysia fell to X units in 2022, leveling off at 2021 figures. In general, exports saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 83%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, circuit breaker exports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 71% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Japan (X units) was the main destination for circuit breaker exports from Malaysia, with a 49% share of total exports. Moreover, circuit breaker exports to Japan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, China (X units), fivefold. The UK (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Japan stood at -6.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (-4.0% per year) and the UK (-14.5% per year).
In value terms, Japan ($X) remains the key foreign market for automatic circuit breakers exports from Malaysia, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 9.9% share of total exports. It was followed by the UK, with an 8.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Japan totaled -1.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (+1.5% per year) and the UK (-3.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average circuit breaker export price amounted to $X per unit, waning by -4.3% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, circuit breaker export price increased by +14.4% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 35%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then declined modestly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Qatar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+26.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Malaysia
In 2022, overseas purchases of automatic circuit breakers increased by 3.6% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, circuit breaker imports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of circuit breaker to Malaysia, with a 49% share of total imports. Moreover, circuit breaker imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Singapore (X units), twofold. Japan (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at -3.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (+0.5% per year) and Japan (+7.2% per year).
In value terms, Singapore ($X), China ($X) and South Korea ($X) appeared to be the largest circuit breaker suppliers to Malaysia, together comprising 70% of total imports. Japan and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 11%.
In terms of the main suppliers, the United States, with a CAGR of +0.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average circuit breaker import price amounted to $X per unit, declining by -10.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the price for Japan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
