Base Station Market Size in Malaysia

The Malaysian base station market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, the amount of base stations exported from Malaysia shrank remarkably to X tons, with a decrease of -38.9% compared with 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 199%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, base station exports contracted significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 242% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands (X tons) was the main destination for base station exports from Malaysia, with a 14% share of total exports. Moreover, base station exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), twofold. India (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the Netherlands amounted to +6.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+32.4% per year) and India (+17.0% per year).

In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest markets for base station exported from Malaysia worldwide, together accounting for 29% of total exports. India, China, South Korea, Honduras, the United States, Nepal, Vietnam, Germany, Algeria and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Nepal, with a CAGR of +74.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average base station export price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -47.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 66%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Honduras (+22.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Malaysia

In 2021, the amount of base stations imported into Malaysia skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 19% against 2020 figures. In general, total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +25.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, base station imports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -26.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) was the main base station supplier to Malaysia, accounting for a 95% share of total imports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tons), with a 2.7% share of total imports. The third position in this ranking was held by Sweden (X kg), with a 0.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +14.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+0.9% per year) and Sweden (-42.8% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of base stations to Malaysia, comprising 95% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 1.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Sweden, with less than 0.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +14.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hong Kong SAR (-2.6% per year) and Sweden (-47.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average base station import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -24.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 18% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-0.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
