Bottled Water Market Size in Malaysia
The Malaysian bottled water market fell to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -1.8% against the previous year. Overall, the total consumption indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption decreased by -4.3% against 2019 indices. Bottled water consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Over the period under review, the total production indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -4.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 50%. Bottled water production peaked at $X in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Exports from Malaysia
In 2022, overseas shipments of bottled waters increased by 10% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 143% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, bottled water exports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 56%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Singapore (X tons) was the main destination for bottled water exports from Malaysia, with a 69% share of total exports. Moreover, bottled water exports to Singapore exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Panama (X tons), ninefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), with a 5.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Singapore totaled -9.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Panama (+1.5% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+60.1% per year).
In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the key foreign market for bottled waters exports from Malaysia, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with a 3% share of total exports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with a 2.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Singapore stood at -2.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (+2.6% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+7.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average bottled water export price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -11.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 80%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Malaysia
In 2022, the amount of bottled waters imported into Malaysia reduced notably to X tons, which is down by -15.1% on 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country
France (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the main suppliers of bottled water imports to Malaysia, together comprising 41% of total imports. These countries were followed by Japan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Italy and Vietnam, which together accounted for a further 36%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +100.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($X), France ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) were the largest bottled water suppliers to Malaysia, together accounting for 54% of total imports. The United States, Singapore, Thailand, Italy, Turkey and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.
Thailand, with a CAGR of +78.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average bottled water import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 5.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a modest increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+26.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
