The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 1,199% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, bromides, iodides and oxids thereof exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 833% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2020, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

Brunei Darussalam (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons) were the main destinations of bromides, iodides and oxids thereof exports from Malaysia, with a combined 92% share of total exports. China, Vietnam and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 6.8%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +339.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Brunei Darussalam ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X) constituted the largest markets for bromides, iodides and oxids thereof exported from Malaysia worldwide, together comprising 88% of total exports. Vietnam, China and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 9.7%.
Among the main countries of destination, China, with a CAGR of +277.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, approx. X tons of bromides and bromide oxides, iodides and iodide oxides were imported into Malaysia; growing by 25% on the year before. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 123% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, bromides, iodides and oxids thereof imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 84% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

China (X tons), Jordan (X tons) and Brunei Darussalam (X tons) were the main suppliers of bromides, iodides and oxids thereof imports to Malaysia, together accounting for 69% of total imports. Djibouti, Lao People's Democratic Republic, the United States, Vietnam, Taiwan (Chinese), the United Arab Emirates and India lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +74.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest bromides, iodides and oxids thereof suppliers to Malaysia were China ($X), Jordan ($X) and Djibouti ($X), with a combined 60% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Brunei Darussalam, Taiwan (Chinese), Lao People's Democratic Republic, the United States, India, Vietnam and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 33%.

The average import price for bromides and bromide oxides, iodides and iodide oxides stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -3.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 34%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
