Porcelain Technical Ware Market Size in Malaysia
The Malaysian porcelain technical ware market declined sharply to $X in 2022, which is down by -20.8% against the previous year. In 2022, shipments abroad of porcelain ceramic wares for laboratory, technical, and chemical use decreased by -0.6% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 58%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, porcelain technical ware exports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +32.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 147%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
Exports by Country
China (X tons) was the main destination for porcelain technical ware exports from Malaysia, accounting for a 64% share of total exports. Moreover, porcelain technical ware exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Vietnam (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Sri Lanka (X tons), with a 7.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to China totaled +87.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+34.6% per year) and Sri Lanka (+5.5% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for porcelain ceramic wares for laboratory, technical, and chemical use exports from Malaysia, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sri Lanka ($X), with an 8% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 7.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to China stood at +113.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sri Lanka (+10.2% per year) and Vietnam (+32.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average porcelain technical ware export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -11.8% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, porcelain technical ware export price increased by +44.6% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 57% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+13.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Malaysia
In 2022, imports of porcelain ceramic wares for laboratory, technical, and chemical use into Malaysia fell to X tons, shrinking by -9% against 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 68% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, porcelain technical ware imports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 74%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank significantly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Indonesia (X tons) constituted the largest porcelain technical ware supplier to Malaysia, accounting for a 81% share of total imports. Moreover, porcelain technical ware imports from Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Thailand (X tons), eightfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Indonesia amounted to +13.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+39.8% per year) and China (-0.1% per year).
In value terms, Indonesia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of porcelain ceramic wares for laboratory, technical, and chemical use to Malaysia, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 10% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Indonesia stood at +20.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+30.1% per year) and China (-1.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average porcelain technical ware import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -13.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 39%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank in the following year.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
