Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Malaysia
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of wood chips and particles, when their volume decreased by -1.8% to X cubic meters. Overall, imports showed a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 67% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X cubic meters in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wood chips and particles imports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Vietnam (X cubic meters) constituted the largest wood chips and particles supplier to Malaysia, with a 72% share of total imports. Moreover, wood chips and particles imports from Vietnam exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X cubic meters), more than tenfold. Germany (X cubic meters) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Vietnam amounted to +17.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+43.5% per year) and Germany (-12.1% per year).
In value terms, Vietnam ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wood chips and particles to Malaysia, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 3.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Vietnam totaled +40.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-17.9% per year) and Singapore (-23.0% per year).
