The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Singapore (X tons), China (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the main destinations of coffee extract exports from Malaysia, with a combined 43% share of total exports. Vietnam, Hong Kong SAR, Kazakhstan, Japan, Taiwan (Chinese), the United States, the Philippines, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.

In 2021, the average coffee extract export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 7.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight shrinkage. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -8.9% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In 2021, Indonesia (X tons) constituted the largest coffee extract supplier to Malaysia, with a 48% share of total imports. Moreover, coffee extract imports from Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X tons), twofold. The average coffee extract import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a mild increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 16% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
