In 2022, the Malaysian combined refrigerator-freezer market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In value terms, combined refrigerator-freezer exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports faced a drastic downturn. South Africa (X units), Macao SAR (X units) and Brunei Darussalam (X units) were the main destinations of combined refrigerator-freezer exports from Malaysia, together accounting for 64% of total exports. Uzbekistan, China, Spain, Taiwan (Chinese), the UK, Egypt, Trinidad and Tobago, Singapore, Vietnam and Hong Kong SAR lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +90.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Macao SAR ($X) remains the key foreign market for combined refrigerators-freezers exports from Malaysia, comprising 36% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 10% share.

In value terms, combined refrigerator-freezer imports rose significantly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 21%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Thailand (X units), China (X units) and Indonesia (X units) were the main suppliers of combined refrigerator-freezer imports to Malaysia, together accounting for 93% of total imports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, which accounted for a further 5.5%.
