In 2022, crude soybean oil imports into Malaysia skyrocketed to X tons, jumping by 23% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -15.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 42%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Argentina (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of crude soybean oil to Malaysia, accounting for a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, crude soybean oil imports from Argentina exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), threefold. Russia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Argentina stood at +1.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+87.5% per year) and Russia (+26.4% per year).
In value terms, Argentina ($X) constituted the largest supplier of crude soybean oil to Malaysia, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Argentina amounted to -3.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+88.2% per year) and Russia (+35.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average crude soybean oil import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -20.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 53%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
