The average frozen whole fish export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -11% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 23% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, frozen whole fish imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of frozen whole fish to Malaysia, accounting for a 32% share of total imports. Moreover, frozen whole fish imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X tons), threefold.
