The United States (X units), Singapore (X units) and Hungary (X units) were the main destinations of hair, shaving and toilet brush exports from Malaysia, together comprising 52% of total exports. Thailand, the UK, Belgium, China, Indonesia, the Netherlands and Australia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 40%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Indonesia (with a CAGR of +52.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of hair brushes and shaving and toilet brushes for personal use were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -27.3% against 2019 indices. Imports peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, hair, shaving and toilet brush imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 70% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest hair, shaving and toilet brush supplier to Malaysia, with a 84% share of total imports. Moreover, hair, shaving and toilet brush imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Sri Lanka (X units), sevenfold. Japan (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 1.8% share.
