Halogenated hydrocarbon derivative exports from Malaysia contracted to X tons in 2022, which is down by -10.4% compared with the year before. In general, exports showed a sharp contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 37%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative exports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a precipitous contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 38%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Singapore (X tons) was the main destination for halogenated hydrocarbon derivative exports from Malaysia, accounting for a 50% share of total exports. Moreover, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative exports to Singapore exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Vietnam (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Thailand (X tons), with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Singapore was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (-47.7% per year) and Thailand (-0.2% per year).
In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the key foreign market for halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons exports from Malaysia, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Singapore amounted to -1.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (+4.9% per year) and Indonesia (-37.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average halogenated hydrocarbon derivative export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -3.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 123% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bangladesh ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+14.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Malaysia
In 2022, supplies from abroad of halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons increased by 0.1% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 6.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative imports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Indonesia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of halogenated hydrocarbon derivative to Malaysia, accounting for a 44% share of total imports. Moreover, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative imports from Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), twofold. Japan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 17% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Indonesia totaled +3.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-1.6% per year) and Japan (-5.7% per year).
In value terms, the largest halogenated hydrocarbon derivative suppliers to Malaysia were Indonesia ($X), China ($X) and Japan ($X), with a combined 80% share of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Indonesia, with a CAGR of +2.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average halogenated hydrocarbon derivative import price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -12% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 42% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
