In value terms, plastic household articles exports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +42.1% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Japan (X tons) was the main destination for plastic household articles exports from Malaysia, accounting for a 36% share of total exports. Moreover, plastic household articles exports to Japan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Singapore (X tons), threefold. Thailand (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Japan amounted to +2.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (-4.4% per year) and Thailand (+12.2% per year).
In value terms, China ($X), Japan ($X) and Singapore ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for plastic household articles exported from Malaysia worldwide, together comprising 55% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, China, with a CAGR of +67.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average plastic household articles export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -4.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+20.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Malaysia
After six years of growth, purchases abroad of household articles and toilet articles of plastics decreased by -2.9% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 65% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, plastic household articles imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 61%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest plastic household articles supplier to Malaysia, accounting for a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic household articles imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Indonesia (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Thailand (X tons), with a 3.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +21.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (+5.6% per year) and Thailand (-2.5% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of household articles and toilet articles of plastics to Malaysia, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with an 8.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 3.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at +16.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+2.4% per year) and Indonesia (-0.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average plastic household articles import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -5.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a pronounced decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 18% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
