The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, inulin exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 391% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Singapore (X tons) was the main destination for inulin exports from Malaysia, with a 99% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam (X kg), with a 0.6% share of total exports.

The average inulin export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 24% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, inulin export price increased by +104.3% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 69%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Malaysia
In 2021, the amount of inulin imported into Malaysia soared to X tons, with an increase of 37% against 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, saw a slight downturn. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, inulin imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced curtailment. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Belgium (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of inulin to Malaysia, with a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, inulin imports from Belgium exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Thailand (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Belgium totaled -2.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+35.0% per year) and the Netherlands (-4.6% per year).
In value terms, Belgium ($X) constituted the largest supplier of inulin to Malaysia, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Belgium amounted to -6.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (-5.7% per year) and Thailand (+38.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average inulin import price amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 12%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while the price for Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+12.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
