Imports by Country
In 2022, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest lactose supplier to Malaysia, accounting for a 50% share of total imports. Moreover, lactose imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), threefold. New Zealand (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States stood at -9.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+1.9% per year) and New Zealand (-4.8% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and New Zealand ($X) were the largest lactose suppliers to Malaysia, with a combined 73% share of total imports. Germany, Denmark, India, France and Canada lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.
