The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +115.8% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 58%. In general, total exports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +88.0% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 41%. Papua New Guinea (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Australia (X tons) were the main destinations of lime exports from Malaysia, together accounting for 62% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Australia (with a CAGR of +93.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for lime exported from Malaysia were Australia ($X), Papua New Guinea ($X) and Singapore ($X), together comprising 55% of total exports.
Australia, with a CAGR of +91.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average lime export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 7.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight reduction. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Papua New Guinea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Lime Imports
Imports into Malaysia
In 2021, purchases abroad of lime increased by 66% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports recorded a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 138% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, lime imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 108% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Vietnam (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the main suppliers of lime imports to Malaysia, with a combined 80% share of total imports. The UK, China, Belgium and Hong Kong SAR lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Hong Kong SAR (with a CAGR of +390.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Spain ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Thailand ($X) constituted the largest lime suppliers to Malaysia, together accounting for 61% of total imports. These countries were followed by the UK, Belgium, China and Hong Kong SAR, which together accounted for a further 26%.
Among the main suppliers, Hong Kong SAR, with a CAGR of +215.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average lime import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 6.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 29%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
