In value terms, the largest markets for lime exported from Malaysia were Australia ($X), Papua New Guinea ($X) and Singapore ($X), together comprising 55% of total exports.

In 2021, purchases abroad of lime increased by 66% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports recorded a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 138% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, lime imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 108% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Vietnam (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the main suppliers of lime imports to Malaysia, with a combined 80% share of total imports. The UK, China, Belgium and Hong Kong SAR lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Hong Kong SAR (with a CAGR of +390.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
