The Malaysian market for manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates expanded significantly to $X in 2021, surging by 10% against the previous year. In general, consumption posted resilient growth. Exports from Malaysia

In 2021, overseas shipments of manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates decreased by -33.1% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 149% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then fell significantly in the following year.

In value terms, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 138% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Brunei Darussalam (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) were the main destinations of manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates exports from Malaysia, with a combined 88% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Brunei Darussalam (with a CAGR of +42.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brunei Darussalam ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and Singapore ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates exported from Malaysia worldwide, together accounting for 82% of total exports.

Brunei Darussalam, with a CAGR of +25.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 68% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, the amount of manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates imported into Malaysia expanded notably to X tons, with an increase of 5.8% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 122%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates imports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 137%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates to Malaysia, with a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), twofold. Thailand (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +17.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+30.0% per year) and Thailand (+35.4% per year).

In 2021, the average import price for manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 4.7% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
