In 2022, the amount of medical, surgical or laboratory sterilisers exported from Malaysia dropped to X units, which is down by -10.4% on 2021. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 726%. The exports peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, medical steriliser exports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 613% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Singapore (X units) was the main destination for medical steriliser exports from Malaysia, with a 45% share of total exports. Moreover, medical steriliser exports to Singapore exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Japan (X units), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Thailand (X units), with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Singapore totaled +18.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (+16.1% per year) and Thailand (+15.6% per year).

In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the key foreign market for medical, surgical or laboratory sterilisers exports from Malaysia, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Singapore totaled +22.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (+71.4% per year) and Thailand (+19.6% per year).

In 2022, the average medical steriliser export price amounted to $X per unit, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, medical steriliser export price increased by +99.0% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 36% against the previous year. Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kuwait (+23.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of medical, surgical or laboratory sterilisers imported into Malaysia reduced notably to X units, which is down by -18.6% against the year before. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 72%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, medical steriliser imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -9.8% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 61% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest medical steriliser supplier to Malaysia, accounting for a 41% share of total imports. Moreover, medical steriliser imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Austria (X units), fourfold. Germany (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +28.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Austria (+23.5% per year) and Germany (-15.8% per year).

In value terms, the largest medical steriliser suppliers to Malaysia were China ($X), Austria ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 49% of total imports. Italy, Singapore, Sweden, the United States, Spain, the UK, Hungary, Japan and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 44%.

Hungary, with a CAGR of +37.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average medical steriliser import price amounted to $X per unit, approximately equating the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 13% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit, leveling off in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
