Indonesia (X units), Iraq (X units) and Thailand (X units) were the main destinations of internal combustion engines exports from Malaysia, together accounting for 47% of total exports. The Philippines, Hong Kong SAR, South Africa, the United States, Russia, Chile, Guatemala, China and Nigeria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 44%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Hong Kong SAR (with a CAGR of +41.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Thailand ($X), Indonesia ($X) and South Africa ($X) constituted the largest markets for internal combustion engines exported from Malaysia worldwide, with a combined 50% share of total exports. Hong Kong SAR, Russia, Iraq, the Philippines, Chile, Guatemala, the United States, China and Nigeria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Hong Kong SAR, with a CAGR of +25.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average internal combustion engines export price amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -5.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 19%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Iraq ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Nigeria (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Malaysia
In 2021, purchases abroad of motor vehicles compression-ignition internal combustion piston engines was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, internal combustion engines imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Japan (X units), Thailand (X units) and China (X units) were the main suppliers of internal combustion engines imports to Malaysia, together accounting for 93% of total imports. South Korea lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further 1.8%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for South Korea (with a CAGR of +9.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) constituted the largest supplier of motor vehicles compression-ignition internal combustion piston engines to Malaysia, comprising 79% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 1.3% share.
