Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-medical x-ray exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 79% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The United States (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main destinations of non-medical x-ray exports from Malaysia, with a combined 40% share of total exports. India, Mexico, Germany, South Korea, Thailand, Qatar, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan (Chinese) and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Thailand (with a CAGR of +29.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for non-medical x-ray exported from Malaysia were the United States ($X), China ($X) and India ($X), together accounting for 39% of total exports. Mexico, Germany, South Korea, Thailand, Qatar, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan (Chinese), Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.
Among the main countries of destination, Thailand, with a CAGR of +32.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average non-medical x-ray export price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -3.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 33%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of non-medical x-rays increased by 327% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports continue to indicate prominent growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest non-medical x-ray supplier to Malaysia, accounting for a 50% share of total imports. Moreover, non-medical x-ray imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Japan (X tons), with a 7.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +44.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-3.0% per year) and Japan (+3.2% per year).
