From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-wheat flour exports reached $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Brunei Darussalam (X tons) were the main destinations of non-wheat flour exports from Malaysia, together comprising 64% of total exports. Indonesia, Somalia, Chad, the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, New Zealand and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Chad (with a CAGR of +180.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and Brunei Darussalam ($X) were the largest markets for non-wheat flour exported from Malaysia worldwide, together accounting for 45% of total exports. These countries were followed by Indonesia, Somalia, Chad, the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, the UK and New Zealand, which together accounted for a further 42%.

Among the main countries of destination, Chad, with a CAGR of +193.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average non-wheat flour export price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -6.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 31%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 24%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, non-wheat flour imports shrank to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Thailand was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (+104.4% per year) and the Netherlands (+79.9% per year).
