In 2022, overseas shipments of other agglomerates decreased by -20.9% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 319%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, other agglomerates exports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 493%. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Saudi Arabia (X tons), Japan (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) were the main destinations of other agglomerates exports from Malaysia, together comprising 70% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Japan (with a CAGR of +45.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the key foreign market for other agglomerates exports from Malaysia, comprising 42% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 7.6% share.

Imports into Malaysia

In 2022, approx. X tons of other agglomerates were imported into Malaysia; picking up by 11% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports recorded prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 182% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, other agglomerates imports contracted modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 145%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Vietnam (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of other agglomerates imports to Malaysia, with a combined 51% share of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese), Germany, Egypt and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Egypt (with a CAGR of +505.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Philippines ($X), China ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest other agglomerates suppliers to Malaysia, with a combined 49% share of total imports. Vietnam, Taiwan (Chinese), Egypt and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.

Egypt, with a CAGR of +454.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average other agglomerates import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -12.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 33% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while the price for Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
