The Malaysian spectacle plastic frame market contracted to $X in 2021, with a decrease of -5.6% against the previous year. Colombia (X units), the United States (X units) and Hong Kong SAR (X units) were the main destinations of spectacle plastic frame exports from Malaysia, together accounting for 40% of total exports. Japan, Turkey, Singapore, Brazil, Panama, Taiwan (Chinese), Italy, the United Arab Emirates, France and Cambodia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 45%.

The average spectacle plastic frame export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, waning by -21.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 207%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In general, imports, however, recorded a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 186% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, spectacle plastic frame imports fell to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 149%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest spectacle plastic frame supplier to Malaysia, accounting for a 62% share of total imports.
