China (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) were the main destinations of printing components exports from Malaysia, with a combined 45% share of total exports. Indonesia, India, Brazil, South Korea, Thailand, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 48%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of +62.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X), South Korea ($X) and the Philippines ($X) constituted the largest markets for printing components exported from Malaysia worldwide, with a combined 45% share of total exports. Brazil, Singapore, China, India, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Thailand and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.
Among the main countries of destination, Brazil, with a CAGR of +61.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average printing components export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 3.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, printing components export price decreased by -11.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bangladesh (+11.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Malaysia
For the fourth year in a row, Malaysia recorded growth in supplies from abroad of printing components, which increased by 9.5% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 107%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, printing components imports reduced notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 126%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest printing components supplier to Malaysia, accounting for a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, printing components imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Singapore (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X tons), with a 3.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (-12.8% per year) and Germany (+1.1% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of printing components to Malaysia, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 7.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 2.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +3.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-7.9% per year) and Indonesia (+19.7% per year).
