In 2021, after seven years of growth, there was decline in the Malaysian vitamin market, when its value decreased by -0.3% to $X. Imports into Malaysia
In 2021, purchases abroad of provitamins and vitamins increased by 15% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, vitamin imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest vitamin supplier to Malaysia, with a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, vitamin imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Sri Lanka (X tons), fivefold. The Netherlands (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +8.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Sri Lanka (+52.9% per year) and the Netherlands (+20.7% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of provitamins and vitamins to Malaysia, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 6.9% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 6.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +7.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+26.8% per year) and the United States (-7.6% per year).

The average vitamin import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -1.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a pronounced reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 12%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
