The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 182%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Singapore (X tons) was the main destination for exports of pulp from fibres other than wood from Malaysia, accounting for a 58% share of total exports. Moreover, exports of pulp from fibres other than wood to Singapore exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Vietnam (X tons), fourfold. Bulgaria (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Singapore amounted to -15.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (-37.9% per year) and Bulgaria (-31.4% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for pulp from fibres other than wood exported from Malaysia were Vietnam ($X), Singapore ($X) and Germany ($X), together comprising 83% of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Singapore, with a CAGR of -12.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average export price for pulp from fibres other than wood amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -19.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 77% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+12.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Malaysia
In 2022, the amount of pulp from fibres other than wood imported into Malaysia soared to X tons, picking up by 17% against the previous year. In general, imports posted moderate growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 84%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, imports of pulp from fibres other than wood expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted a mild expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 96% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of attained the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of pulp from fibres other than wood to Malaysia, accounting for a 30% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of pulp from fibres other than wood from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by China (X tons), with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany stood at +5.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+25.2% per year) and China (+6.5% per year).
In value terms, Japan ($X), Germany ($X) and Singapore ($X) appeared to be the largest pulp from fibres other than wood suppliers to Malaysia, with a combined 63% share of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese), China, India, the United States, Thailand and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.
India, with a CAGR of +34.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average import price for pulp from fibres other than wood amounted to $X per ton, declining by -10.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
