Overall, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 207%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, non-decaffeinated roasted coffee exports shrank notably to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 161%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then plummeted in the following year.

Exports by Country

China (X tons) was the main destination for non-decaffeinated roasted coffee exports from Malaysia, with a 56% share of total exports. Moreover, non-decaffeinated roasted coffee exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Singapore (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by South Korea (X tons), with a 5.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to China totaled +134.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+45.6% per year) and Singapore (+25.1% per year).

In 2021, the average non-decaffeinated roasted coffee export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 4.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 31% against the previous year. In 2021, non-decaffeinated roasted coffee imports into Malaysia totaled X tons, approximately equating 2020 figures. Overall, imports saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 86%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

In value terms, non-decaffeinated roasted coffee imports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 49%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Indonesia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of non-decaffeinated roasted coffee to Malaysia, accounting for a 36% share of total imports. In terms of the main suppliers, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +50.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average non-decaffeinated roasted coffee import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 7.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a perceptible downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
